I am a chef with a major international hotel chain and I sharpen a lot of knives, often!
I moved into a flat with an old Accusharp sure mount sharpener installed on the buther's block in the kitchen.
It wasnt all that great at first, but I have used the Accusharp hand held sharpeners before so I opened it and turned the blades.
Good as new! I have used the sharpener at least once a week for the last few months to keep my work and home knives super sharp.
We have just purchased a new house and are moving soon and unfortunately I have to leave the sharpener behind.
The good news is they are CHEAP and I am about to order me one! I wouldn't bother with the spare blades unless you abuse your knifes or are going to be living somewhere remote.
There are better knife sharpeners out there and if you have a really expensive knife set I would recommend you get something else as this will eat your blades. But I dont use particularly expensive knives (Victorinox they do the job of knives 3 times their price) and I can afford to replace them every two years or so.
This is a great little gadget at an affordable price.
The fact that you can mount it where you use it is a double bonus as you never need to go looking for it.
I do recommended that you run the blade over a steel a couple times after sharpening as the sharpener can leave the blade a little jagged.
